International Symposium “Music and dance theatre”

We invite everyone to take part in the International Symposium “Music and dance theatre”. The main aim is to get a broad perspective of interrelationship between music and dance theatre. History proves that the role of music in particular artists’ works has been changing, many of them presented an innovative approach to music, expressing this fact in their choreographies which began to change the attitude to dance theatre, taking it to territories unknown before. In contemporary dance theatre’s performances music is an inspiration, supplement, tells the stories and sometimes creates an additional formal layer, a stimulus for broader search of meanings and aesthetics. Biographies of well known composers and plots taken from their works constitute another reference point. The goal of the conference is to answer how musical inspirations are reflected in rather complicated message of dance theatre, what is the role of music, what it is characterized with and what decides on its composition and choice.

The symposium will also be a perfect opportunity to confront opinions and points of view of different representatives of the dance, music and scientific circles, as well as an attempt to put into order establishments connected with the relation between the two fields of arts existing hitherto. We hope that the papers presented during the symposium as well as the discussions accompanying them will contribute to development in research on dance theatre in Poland.

Symposium is organized under the Honourable Patronage of the dean of MCSU in Lublin, prof. dr hab. Andrzej Dąbrowski.
