One of the artistic starting points for this piece is the aesthetics of the composer Iannis Xenakis. He was known for putting the major tonality concepts aside, and instead he used mathematical, physical and architectural principles in his compositions. Another point is Company B. Valiente’s ability to mix visual arts, theatre, music, architecture and dance. During “The Artist’s Space”, the three actors walk incessantly in and out of the roles of physical and musical performer, taking part of creating the architecture on stage. So what is dance? Or music, for that matter? Where is the distinction between different art forms? How far can an artist pushhis or her limits to manage several art disciplines at the same time? These questions, and several others related to the artistic expression, are central in Company B. Valiente’s productions.
