Krakowski Teatr Tańca _ The Entrance

The Entranceis an international collaborative project created by choreographer Ayrin Ersöz (Turkey) members of Krakow Dance Company including the artistic director Eryk Makohon (Poland), the composer Sergej Maingardt (Germany) and the video artist Grzegorz Mart (Poland). Deriving our artistic motivation for this project from the current refugee crisis in Europe, we conceive ourselves as an international collaborative group asking what choreography, music and the moving image can offer when analyzing refuging bodies. As artists, we aim to transmit our humanitarian concern into an artistic product that sheds light on hidden and implicit biases surrounding the refugee crisis. Refraining from any representational form the project focuses on the understanding ‘the hope’ that is the triggering motivation for refuging bodies to embark an excruciating journey which in many cases ends disastrously. A hope almost impossible to be traced in the highly industrialized and modernized lives of the West. A hope that can may only find its match in the liminal existence of the dancing bodies, in their overwhelming desire to dance subjecting them to constant state of entering and exiting the choreographic space of command. As Benjamin once said “it is only for the sake of those without hope that hope is given to us.”

The performance was co-organized by the Institute of Music and Dance as part of the “Choreographic orders 2019” program. The performance is co-financed by the City of Krakow.
