Weronika Lewandowska / Sandra Frydrysiak _ Noccc

A virtual erotic poem created to be viewed in virtual reality. The debut of directors Weronika Lewandowska and Sandra Frydrysiak was one of the revelations at this year’s Sundance. It also made it to the ofcial selection of the prestigious go East festival in Wiesbaden and received the American Cinequest award (Best VR Sound Design).

Nightsss was created less than half a year ago at Visual Narrative Laboratory at Lodz Film School. Thanks to the goggles of virtual reality the audience will have a chance to immerse in a three-dimensional, interactive experience of poetry and dance. The starting point of the script for the 7-minute experimental animation Nightsss was a slam poem by Weronika Lewandowska. In the poem the artist uses sounds characteristic of the Polish language, creating onomatopoeic landscapes which cross the language barriers. The source of the artists’ inspiration was a research project dedicated to the perception of dance and movement in a virtual reality, which they conducted at the SWPS University of Social Sciences and Humanities when writing their doctoral theses on art (Lewandowska about immersive experience in performative artistic practices, and Frydrysiak about dance as a cognitive practice in the context of new technologies and neurosciences).
